Making Life Easier

Modern innovations and more efficient home life behaviour will improve your quality of life, giving you more time to do the things you want to do and giving your family wellness of mind and body. By using high-tech gadgets and by organizing your time and home space, you are caring for your health and wellness. Now like never before, society's focus is on making life easier.

High-tech gadgets and gizmos to ease the daily grind
The innovative techno-world has again captured my attention with four products that empower you to greater flexibility and control over your time. Now you can slip out for your workout at the gym while listening to your personal music selections and still be in touch with work. You can go on a trip by yourself and feel safer, knowing that you won't have to stop for directions in some unknown neighborhood. You have more control over your life. The following four high-tech gadgets and gizmos are amongst the most innovative:

Laptops
Laptop PCs are a partner for work and play. Use them for documents, games, DVD movies, CDs, internet and e-mail.

Blackberry
This global gadget keeps you in touch with work, friends, family and customers; whenever you want. You are in control with this cell phone, PDA (calendar, address book, memo pad) and web browser all in one. Fashionable as it is useful, this phenomenon was invented in Canada.

Global Positioning System
Safety and freedom is echoed with this revolutionary product that communicates with the sky above. Satellites will direct and pinpoint your precise route. Now you have the freedom to drive with confidence, without a map and independently of assistance from strangers.

OnStar GPS is available in many GM vehicles. It features a live voice when you need assistance, hands-free voice-activated phone dialling and the power to unlock your car for you.

Portable Media Players
I Pod, by Apple is indisputably the most popular portable media player. Touting a capacity to store thousands of songs, colour photos, videos, TV shows and more, it is both easy to use and convenient to use while you are immersed in physical activity.

Countertop Appliances
Use the latest appliances to save you time. You will be able to do more and as a result you will feel a greater sense of accomplishment and reward by your family. The following two appliances are a must in every kitchen.

Your stand mixer, with its various attachments and accessories, drastically cuts down on your preparation time and increases you motivation for designing culinary art.

Being a person who enjoys using my kitchen mixer, I was pleased to find a mixer whose motor didn't burn out, following continued use. Over my first year of use I was impressed with how clean and protected my work area and I, remained from start to finish. Faster clean up and most importantly, faster processing time is what impresses me most. The stand holds the mixer and frees me to assemble and collect my ingredients. My ingredients are being combined and whipped while I assemble and collect all of my ingredients. Upscale, easy and fast assistance is combined with versatile and convenient attachments.

Food Processors are a magnet for kitchen help. Your children will love to help you insert the fruits and vegetables and then press the on or pulse buttons. You have created bonding time and cut down on your preparation time!

Keep healthy and wash your hands
The following section is written by Sharon Cassar; RN, ADN, CCRN(p), Pediatric Medical Expert and regular contributor to Quality Of Life Omnimedia

Bird Flu, Ebola, Influenza, and Herpes… What do they have in common?

They are all Viruses. Nasty little buggers that take over our cells. That's right; they invade our cells, change them into virus factories and begin mass production.
Viruses are just protein covered strands of information. Microscopic shapes and squiggles. They just lie around and do nothing. They stay out of trouble…..
That is until… You come along.

Once they get carried into a living body……The party begins.

Our cells have everything. Mitochondria, organelles, cytoplasm, glucose… They are staying at the "Ritz".

Viruses have nothing….nothing except those little strands of information.

Unfortunately, those little strands of information allow them to reproduce. To be continued…

Organizing your home space
Make a good example of yourself and model organization and pride in your home. This will give your children a healthy upbringing with a great chance of success in life. The following easy to follow rules should be followed by every family member; old and young.

Rule #1: In its proper place
Remind every family member to do put each thing in its proper place. This routine of organization empowers every family member with a feeling of belonging to the home. It also prevents frustration and the angry feelings associated with not finding a common tool or favourite thing. Most importantly, it eliminates the daunting task of a major clear up.

You can create a greater feeling of calm and happiness in your home, if every day tasks seem easy to handle. Make a habit of putting things back in their proper place immediately after use and lovingly invite your children to do their part. You will never ask or tell them to clean up their toys. Doing so would just invite a 'no' answer. You will phrase it like this: "Would you prefer to clean up your puzzles before we have our snack or your blocks before we have our snack?" Your toddler will love to help you, if you give him/her the opportunity to do so.

Rule # 2 Keeping your home space neat, tidy and pleasant
Concentrate on the obvious areas, daily. Vacuum and dust the foyer and living room. To freshen up your bathroom, quickly spray all surfaces with a spray cleaner and wipe clean with a rag. Spend 5 minutes on these jobs every day. If you can't afford the time, order the services of a house keeper.

While you are spending your five minutes on the family living areas, your children are spending their five minutes on their rooms and personal bathroom. Make it part of your daily routine and in a set time frame. Evaluate what you child has done. It teaches your child pride for his space.

If a surprise visitor knocks on the door, go to the living room. Distract your welcome guest with great food and easy conversation. It is socially acceptable to have a limited degree of imperfection. However, physiologically, your guests will not enjoy the experience of visiting you, if dust and dander permeates the air that they breathe.

Organizing your tasks
When tasks present themselves, be quick to complete them. Leaving them to another day, when they will probably have multiplied, will make them a more insurmountable chore. Iron immediately after you do your laundry. Waiting will only make your ironing task more difficult to begin.

Divide your work load into small, manageable tasks. Clean your cupboards while chatting on the telephone. Another week, you might clean and organize your pantry. Choose one room or cupboard at a time.

Anticipate your chores
Prepare your family's breakfast and pack most of their lunch bags before you go to bed. Refrigerate the perishable parts of lunch in a large basket. Set the breakfast table with the utensils and foods that do not require refrigeration.

Prepare your child's school bag and respond to any school requests every evening. Continue to prepare for the next day by selecting and setting out the next day's attire.

Each child should understand that his/her bed should be done every morning, before exiting the bedroom. This will keep the bed fresh and clean of dust for his/her next bed time.

Every person should be in the habit of putting their personal dish into the dishwasher, immediately after eating.

Create a homework centre, isolated from entertainment distractions. Stock it with crayons and supplies needed to complete homework.

Remember kids need to make as many decisions as possible. Avoid power struggles by letting them make small decisions.

Shopping hints!
Buy tools that function properly. Scissors that don't cut or don't perform up to standards will create a feeling of frustration in your child. This feeling of frustration is as relevant to adults as it is to children.

Allow children to choose their own items or at least the color or design. Guide them appropriately through all decisions. You teach them to make good decisions as an adult, by allowing them to make the small decisions as a child.
